Description

Delicious mini meatballs seasoned with Mediterranean flavors, served on warm pita with creamy tzatziki sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground lamb or beef
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried mint
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup grated cucumber (drained)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 clove garlic (for tzatziki), minced
  • 4 small pita breads

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground meat, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, oregano, mint, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into 1-inch meatballs.
  2. Place meatballs on a baking sheet and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes until cooked through.
  3. Meanwhile, make tzatziki: mix Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, lemon juice, olive oil, and minced garlic. Season with salt to taste.
  4. Warm pita breads in a dry skillet or oven. Cut each pita into 4 wedges.
  5. Arrange meatballs on pita wedges and top with tzatziki sauce.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste. For a lighter version, use ground turkey or chicken.
