A vibrant and shareable appetizer board featuring creamy feta, tangy olives, crunchy fried onions, and a drizzle of spicy-sweet hot honey. Perfect for parties or as a stunning starter.
Ingredients
- 8 oz block of feta cheese, cut into 1/2-inch slabs
- 1/2 cup hot honey (or regular honey mixed with 1 tsp red pepper flakes)
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 cup buttermilk (or milk with 1 tsp lemon juice)
- 1 cup pitted Kalamata olives
- 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1/4 cup sliced red pepperoncini peppers
- 2 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
- 1 tbsp fresh mint, chopped
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 4 cups oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
- Sliced baguette or pita chips for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the crispy onions: In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and pepper. In a separate bowl, place buttermilk. Dip onion slices in buttermilk, then coat with flour mixture. Fry in hot oil (350°F) until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
- Arrange the feta slabs on a serving board or platter. Sprinkle with dried oregano.
- Scatter olives, cherry tomatoes, and pepperoncini around the feta.
- Drizzle hot honey generously over the feta and board.
- Top with crispy fried onions, fresh dill, and mint.
- Serve immediately with sliced baguette or pita chips.
- Enjoy as a shareable appetizer or light meal.
Notes
You can customize the seasonings to taste. For extra heat, add more red pepper flakes to the honey or a pinch of cayenne to the flour. Leftover fried onions can be stored in an airtight container for a day.
