Description

A vibrant and shareable appetizer board featuring creamy feta, tangy olives, crunchy fried onions, and a drizzle of spicy-sweet hot honey. Perfect for parties or as a stunning starter.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz block of feta cheese, cut into 1/2-inch slabs
  • 1/2 cup hot honey (or regular honey mixed with 1 tsp red pepper flakes)
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (or milk with 1 tsp lemon juice)
  • 1 cup pitted Kalamata olives
  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/4 cup sliced red pepperoncini peppers
  • 2 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh mint, chopped
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 4 cups oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
  • Sliced baguette or pita chips for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crispy onions: In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and pepper. In a separate bowl, place buttermilk. Dip onion slices in buttermilk, then coat with flour mixture. Fry in hot oil (350°F) until golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes. Drain on paper towels.
  2. Arrange the feta slabs on a serving board or platter. Sprinkle with dried oregano.
  3. Scatter olives, cherry tomatoes, and pepperoncini around the feta.
  4. Drizzle hot honey generously over the feta and board.
  5. Top with crispy fried onions, fresh dill, and mint.
  6. Serve immediately with sliced baguette or pita chips.
  7. Enjoy as a shareable appetizer or light meal.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste. For extra heat, add more red pepper flakes to the honey or a pinch of cayenne to the flour. Leftover fried onions can be stored in an airtight container for a day.
