Description
These savory mini meatballs are seasoned with classic Greek herbs and served on warm pita triangles with a refreshing homemade tzatziki sauce. Perfect for appetizers or a light meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground lamb or beef
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried mint
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cucumber, grated and squeezed dry
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 4 pita breads, cut into wedges
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine ground meat, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, oregano, mint, cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Form mixture into small 1-inch meatballs and place on prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes until cooked through and lightly browned.
- Meanwhile, prepare tzatziki: In a small bowl, mix Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, lemon juice, dill, and a pinch of salt. Stir well and refrigerate until serving.
- Heat pita wedges in a dry skillet or oven for 2-3 minutes until warm and slightly toasted.
- Serve meatballs on pita wedges with a dollop of tzatziki on top. Garnish with parsley if desired.
Notes
You can customize the seasonings to taste. For a lighter option, use ground turkey or chicken. Tzatziki can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
