Description
Juicy seasoned beef, fresh veggies, and a creamy roasted garlic feta sauce are wrapped in warm pita and finished with a drizzle of spicy hot honey for a perfect balance of savory, tangy, and sweet heat.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
- 1/4 cup Greek yogurt
- 1 head roasted garlic (about 6-8 cloves, mashed)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons fresh dill, chopped
- 4 large pita breads
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1/2 cup sliced cucumber
- 1/4 cup sliced red onion
- 1/4 cup kalamata olives, sliced
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce (e.g., sriracha)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Wrap the garlic head in foil with a drizzle of olive oil and roast for 30 minutes until soft. Set aside to cool.
- In a small bowl, mix together the honey and hot sauce to make the hot honey. Set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef, oregano, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook, breaking up the meat, until browned and cooked through, about 8 minutes. Remove from heat and keep warm.
- In a medium bowl, combine the roasted garlic cloves (mashed), feta cheese, Greek yogurt, lemon juice, and fresh dill. Mix well to form a creamy sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Warm the pita breads in a dry skillet or in the oven for a few minutes until pliable.
- To assemble each wrap, spread a generous spoonful of the feta sauce on the pita. Top with a portion of the cooked beef, then add cherry tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, and olives. Drizzle with the prepared hot honey.
- Fold the pita over the filling and serve immediately, with extra sauce on the side if desired.
Notes
You can customize the seasonings to taste. For a milder sauce, reduce the hot sauce. You can also substitute chicken or lamb for the beef.
