Description

A warm, gooey wheel of Brie baked until golden, topped with buttery caramelized apples and fresh thyme. Perfect for holiday entertaining or a cozy night in.

Ingredients

  • 1 (8-ounce) wheel Brie cheese
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp or Fuji), peeled, cored, and sliced into 1/4-inch thick wedges
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves, plus more for garnish
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed (optional, for wrapping)
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash, if using pastry)
  • Crackers or baguette slices, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). If using puff pastry, lightly flour a work surface and roll it out slightly. Place the Brie in the center and wrap the pastry around it, pinching seams to seal. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet and brush with beaten egg. If not using pastry, place the Brie directly on the baking sheet.
  2. In a medium skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the sliced apples and cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they begin to soften. Stir in the brown sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Continue cooking for 5-7 minutes until the apples are tender and coated in a thick, caramel-like sauce. Remove from heat and stir in the fresh thyme.
  3. If using pastry-wrapped Brie, bake for 20-25 minutes until golden and puffed. If not using pastry, bake for 10-12 minutes until the Brie is soft and slightly melted in the center. Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes.
  4. Top the baked Brie with the caramelized apple mixture. Garnish with additional fresh thyme leaves and serve warm with crackers or baguette slices.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste. For a savory twist, add a drizzle of honey and a pinch of black pepper before serving.
