Description
A luxurious yet simple appetizer featuring a whole wheel of brie baked until molten, topped with sweet caramelized apples and fresh thyme. Perfect for gatherings or cozy nights in.
Ingredients
- 1 (8 ounce) wheel brie cheese
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 apples (such as Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced thin
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves, plus extra for garnish
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Add apple slices, brown sugar, and lemon juice. Cook, stirring occasionally, until apples are soft and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in thyme leaves.
- Place the brie wheel in the center of the puff pastry sheet. Top with the caramelized apple mixture, spreading evenly.
- Fold the pastry over the brie, pleating and pinching to seal completely. Brush the pastry with beaten egg.
- Place the wrapped brie seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and puffed. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
- Garnish with additional fresh thyme leaves and serve warm with crackers or bread.
Notes
You can customize the seasonings to taste. For a nutty twist, add chopped walnuts to the apple mixture. Serve immediately for the best melted texture.
