Description
A rich, creamy, and totally irresistible chocolate pecan ooey gooey butter cake. This decadent dessert features a buttery crust, a gooey chocolate pecan filling, and a crunchy pecan topping. Perfect for any occasion!
Ingredients
- For the crust: 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- For the filling: 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- For the topping: 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, mix together the chocolate cake mix, melted butter, and egg until well combined. Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
- In another large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, beating until smooth. Pour in the melted butter and mix until fully incorporated.
- Stir in 1 cup of chopped pecans. Pour the filling over the crust in the pan, spreading evenly.
- Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup chopped pecans over the top.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes, until the edges are set but the center is still slightly gooey. Do not overbake.
- Remove from oven and let cool completely on a wire rack. Dust with powdered sugar if desired. Cut into squares and serve.
Notes
You can customize the seasonings to taste. For an extra gooey texture, slightly underbake. Store in the refrigerator.
