Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, for topping
- Kitchen torch or broiler for caramelizing
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, cream together butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in egg yolk and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add flour and salt, stirring until a soft dough forms. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place on baking sheet, flattening slightly.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden. Let cool completely on a wire rack.
- Sprinkle a thin layer of brown sugar over each cookie. Use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until bubbly and golden, or broil for 1-2 minutes, watching closely.
