Description
A warm, gooey wheel of brie wrapped in golden puff pastry, topped with sweet caramelized apples and fresh thyme. Perfect for an elegant appetizer or a cozy fall gathering.
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 (8-ounce) wheel of brie cheese
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves, plus more for garnish
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon honey (for drizzling)
- Crackers or sliced baguette, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface. Place the brie in the center of the pastry.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the apple slices and cook until they begin to soften, about 3-4 minutes. Stir in the brown sugar and thyme, and cook until the apples are caramelized, about 3 more minutes. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Spoon the caramelized apple mixture on top of the brie wheel, spreading evenly.
- Fold the puff pastry over the brie, pleating and pinching to seal it completely. Trim excess pastry if desired. Brush the top with the beaten egg.
- Place the wrapped brie on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
- Let cool for 5 minutes. Drizzle with honey and sprinkle with fresh thyme leaves before serving. Serve warm with crackers or sliced baguette.
Notes
You can customize the seasonings to taste. For extra flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the apple mixture.
