Description
A comforting and quick pasta dish featuring tender cheese ravioli tossed in a luscious creamy tomato sauce, finished with fresh basil and Parmesan cheese.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 cup finely chopped yellow onion
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
- 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
- 1 pound cheese ravioli (fresh or frozen)
Instructions
- Cook ravioli according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
- While ravioli cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet or pot over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Pour in crushed tomatoes, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and cook for 10-15 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.
- Stir in heavy cream and 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese. Cook until heated through, about 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly. Do not boil.
- Add the cooked ravioli to the sauce and gently toss to coat.
- Stir in fresh basil.
- Serve immediately, garnished with extra Parmesan cheese and fresh basil, if desired.
Notes
You can customize the seasonings to taste. For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the garlic. Spinach or other vegetables can be added with the onions for extra nutrients.
