Description

A comforting and quick pasta dish featuring tender cheese ravioli tossed in a luscious creamy tomato sauce, finished with fresh basil and Parmesan cheese.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped yellow onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus more for serving
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
  • 1 pound cheese ravioli (fresh or frozen)

Instructions

  1. Cook ravioli according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. While ravioli cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet or pot over medium heat. Add onion and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Pour in crushed tomatoes, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and cook for 10-15 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.
  5. Stir in heavy cream and 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese. Cook until heated through, about 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly. Do not boil.
  6. Add the cooked ravioli to the sauce and gently toss to coat.
  7. Stir in fresh basil.
  8. Serve immediately, garnished with extra Parmesan cheese and fresh basil, if desired.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste. For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the garlic. Spinach or other vegetables can be added with the onions for extra nutrients.
